Mine is a long story also.  hmm... when I was about 20 years old in 1979, I asked for the Holy Spirit because I read that you are supposed to do that in the Bible.  Not long after, I would hear mean voices saying outrageous things in my mind pretending to be my own thoughts, but they were so unlike me that I started to tell the Lord that demons are speaking in my mind... so I guess, looking back, that the demonic voices attacked me so vehemently that it caused me to be taught by the Holy Spirit how to hear God's Voice.  Looking back, it is obvious that God allowed it for my benefit, because I mean, what they were saying was too obviously not my own thoughts, mostly because I do not use profanity or say or think mean things like what they were saying about other people.

The real battle for me was in 2002 when I was taught by the Holy Spirit about the carnal mind.  I did not know it was in the Bible, even though I had certainly read those sections before.. but I did not know that it was a SEPARATE mind construct in the body of man.  The Holy Spirit put a serious wedge between my own mind and the carnal mind in 2002 so that I am now more trained to notice it 100% of the time, and so that it barely comes up anymore - bad news here - the carnal mind can speak from the unbelief around us too 

so even when you have reached a certain level of maturity through training and exercising your faith, you can  still have battles with the carnal mind in other people and even in the atmosphere around you from the unbelief - it is like a FOG.

anyways.. what I really wanted to say in answer to your question, is that not only has God taught me to hear His Voice, but also He confirms His revealed words to me, by CIRCUMSTANCES in my daily life.  He has trained me to notice His interventions, to get my confirmations.  And still, whenever He says something that I doubt that I have heard Him right, I immediately confess, Lord I am not sure I am hearing you right, will you give me confirmations?  And sometimes even, when I dont know enough to ask, He says to me, do you need confirmations?  and I say yes.  And He works out situations or events that remind me of His Word, and then I say oh okay, I got it now.

This all takes practice, perseverence, desire to do His Will 100% at all times, desire to defeat that nasty carnal mind... I mean you really got to want this more than anything else - which is simply to please Him and be in a deeper and deeper relationship with Him.

to me, the carnal mind is the greatest enemy - it is like a personal antichrist in our body - I hate it.  only God can help you with it, you can not defeat it by your self.

I am so glad that you are searching to hear God's voice, and this is a good sign that your heart is motivating you to search for the hiiden treasure God gives to those who are stubborn enough to keep searching amongst a world gone so mad, that it makes it so hard to hear his voice.

  Satan has kept us so distracted by things to steal people’s energy to get them to give it up voluntarily!  He's counting on this and is constantly putting opsticles in our way so that we cannot free ourselves from the unseen manipulation of dualistic forces.  When this happens to people, they will instanly blame God for this a feel he has abandomed them.  Why is God holding out on me?  Why is life so brutal?  We sometimes  wonder why day after day hammers us so bad,  till we lose sight of what God intends toward us.  This is why we need to pray alot for the hidden wisdom (devine knowledge) God gives to those earnestly seeking him.  He and his angels are watching to see if we are stubborn enough to never give up in our search.  We have to realize that this worlds mens carnal way of thinking is not God's way of thinking...his thoughts are higher.  They must come back to Jesus now with their whole heart and repent from the leaning on men's wisdom .  Why do we let men control our thinking abilities?  The bible says that Jesus is the only door to life, the narrow gate.  Can men do anything more and above than what Jesus has already done by dieing for us?  I can see why God has blinded their minds then, because they have not repented and stopped leaning on their own understanding (men's carnal mind)  and they have forgotten God's laws.
To find favor and insight in  God's eyes we must always do this:

Proverbs 3: 5-
Trust in the Lord with (ALL YOU HEART) and lean (NOT ON YOU OWN UNDERSTANDING).  In ALL YOUR WAYS ACKNOWLEDGE HIM,  AND  (HE) WILL MAKE YOUR PATHS STRAIGHT. DO NOT BECOME WISE IN YOUR OWN EYES

The problem is with man.  They forgot the above ...they lean on and hang on every word of what man teach...as the truth..and they let man do all their thinking for them.  They stopped trusting God alone to lead them to the truth that sets them free from this worlds carnal way of thinking, which is foolishness to God. 

Man stopped guarding his heart and thinking abilities.  He let man shape his way of thinking, and didnt follow what the soft voice in his heart tells him (God's voice).... but instead listened to this carnal thought imposter Nada talks about.  This is the devil inside us , in our thoughts...the ones that try to get us to justify ourselves into doing sin, using the excuse that "God will forgive me"  over and over again.  But God hates feet that in a hurry to run to badness. (PROV. 6:16-19)  He wants us to repent of our own free-will, out of love for him.

 He forgives in a large way sure...but you will never hear his voice....till you stop listening to this imposter leading you, and start guarding all your thoughts and seeing who's thought it really is.  When you start doing this all the time, you will begin to hear God from within you , and he will lead you to all the truth.  He will take you by the hand and lead you just as his little child.

Proverbs 4:20-My son, to my words do pay attention, To my sayings(his word) incline your ear.  May they not get away from your eyes.  Keep them in the midst of your heart.  For they are life to those finding them and health to all their flesh. MORE THAN ALL ELSE THAT IS TO BE GUARDED , SAFEGUARD YOUR HEART, FOR OUT OF IT ARE THE SOURCES OF LIFE.
5:1-2
My son, to MY wisdom O do pay attention.  To my discernment incline your ears, so as to GUARD YOUR THINKING ABILITIES, and may your own lips safeguard knowledge itself.

When I was finally able to hear God's voice, the carnal voice, was mad and yelled at me!  I actually heard this voice for the first time ever!  It yelled at me because I decided that I once and for all I  would stop following mens thoughts and follow Jesus alone.  Thats when it said in a taunting hateful voice....WHAT DID RELIGION EVER DO TO YOU!!!!   

O guard your hearts, you sons and daughters of God, if you would win life's prize.
Keep taking counsel from his Word and always realize
That wholesome acts performed by us proceded are by thoughts
So guard your thinking process well
Your minds as Christians ought
A powerful help to guard your heart God gives to us through prayer
Come to him with praise and thanks come with each need and care
Likewise the study of God's Word helps keep the mind aright
and so with fellowship with those who walk on in the light
Yes, always strive to keep your minds on serious things and true
on things both chaste and lovable, on things praisworthy too
And if you keep considering these things you will have peace
A heart well guarded and the hope of life that will not cease

This is the truth, and I live this in my life.  I was made aware of my mother in heaven.  I believe she was kept hidden on purpose.  She is Wisdom, our heavenly Mother, the "Tree of Life " to those finding her.  She is the glory of the Father, and she is the image of his goodness.  I met up with Wisdom (my mother) and she welcomed me in the midst of the paradise of the Father.  I  am a Faithful witness to her reality.  I was given the new name written on my forehead, on the Father's holy mountain, as he wrote it by his own hand on the white stone and I was called by his Holy name and also the name of the city of Righteousness. 

Our Father, our Mother deserve to be honored, and the dicipline given by them is to purify us, and is because they love us.  They want us to choose for ourselves who is it we want to honor, and he gave us freewill to choose.  We must honor them, and live with Love to everyone  in this world, No one can be happy when even one soul is suffering!  This is true LOVE, and God IS LOVE.
